I saw a post recently by a photographer recently who had rated his top 10 Instagram photos from 2012, I thought I would do the same. I’m not sure what criteria he used to reach his top 10 but I’ve gone by the most ‘likes’ with a little curation by me to keep it interesting (there’s only so many beautiful Waiheke Island sunsets you can take!). They’re not necessarily my favourites (perhaps can save that for another post) but are the ones the gained the most attention within the Instagram app. So without further adieu, my top 10…

If 2012 was my year of Instagram then it was equally our year of illness and bad health. This image of our daughter Skye crashed out at the local supermarket was from a time when the whole family was struggling. Usually an exciting time, it was lights out as soon as we hit isle one.

This is a fairly recent image of the Huka Falls near Taupo, New Zealand. The incredible turquoise waters roaring past summer grasses on the bank.

‘The Spirit of Napier’, I always wonder about the intended symbolism of this kind of sculptural form and of the intentions of the work’s creator. Napier, New Zealand.

Sometimes I use Instagram to ‘prove’ an image, testing out a composition or other theory with a simple camera before reshooting on DSLR. This image was taken at the Waiheke Island wedding venue Chardy Ridge while waiting for the sunset to fire up.

A completely still morning on Waiheke Island without a breath of wind to disturb the gulf. I was taken by the reflections of the clouds in the sea.

We tend to travel a fair bit but sometime I wonder why we ever leave Onetangi Beach here on Waiheke Island.

‘Let me out. Please’. The eyes say it all, anticipation, doubt, excitement. Ready for a run at the beach.

Can’t beat bubbling mud. Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland just south of Rotorua, New Zealand. We were a bit dubious of the ‘Wonderland’ title but it is in fact a wondrous place, check it out if you’re in the area.

All excellent choices.
